Using Basalt Columns
For
Landscaping, Water Features, Sculptures, and more.
Basalt Columns are some of the most interesting stone formations that the Earth produces. Columns have a wide array of uses from stand-alone center or accent pieces, multiple pillar arrangements, active water features in an endless variety of designs and placements, birdbaths, benches, wall retainers, architectural forms, memorials, and of course artistic sculpture. Several basic strategies exist for these columns. The tops can be cut flat at any angle and polished, or smoothed out following naturally curved features, or dramatically carved and polished. Water features can be drilled in the center or off center to the tops, or given a side spill cut. Choose natural bowl shapes for water to splash into or dome shapes for water to cascade off in ripples.
